As our own client we presented ourselves and a few new ideas for digital multi-media exhibits at the 20th Ecsite Annual Conference in Milano, Italy to a broad audience of museums and scientific institutes from all over the world.
MESO Digital Interiors GmbH is a full service agency for ideation, design, and realization of digital installations.
We create media-driven, interactive objects, exhibits and environments for museums, commercial spaces and trade fairs – we like to call this “Digital Interiors”.
Our speciality is a strong technical background in computer technology combined with high standards for playfulness, interaction design, didactics and corporate communications.
Some of our special fields of expertise are: real time graphics, internet/intranet integration, 3D projection mapping, interactive lighting technologies.
We also make our own software tools. Most of the development is done in-house.
Our partner office MESO Web Scapes specialises in Web Design based on bespoke content management solutions. We team up to deliver media systems which live both online and on-site.
As our own client we presented ourselves and a few new ideas for digital multi-media exhibits at the 20th Ecsite Annual Conference in Milano, Italy to a broad audience of museums and scientific institutes from all over the world.
“What are the novel methods we employ to reach new audiences and engage our visitors today?” was one focus discussed by the science communication professionals at Ecsite this year.
We suppose we provided a few answers to this question.
What did we bring?
Our client EnBW so kind to borrow us one of the telescopes we designed & built for them earlier this year for the Hannover Messe 2009.
Just one application of what’s already a “meso classic”: one-finger super fast scroll wheel control in beyond-high-definition.
This specific example was from the Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden project.
Okay, that name is silly nerd speak. However, this tech demo of a fiducial tracker is a nice and clean example of how to make any tangible object an interface for a media table. In this case the bugs’ encasing were even back lit automatically via controlled lighting from the projector.
pretty much work in progress, but since we’ve done projections on spheres, domes, and complex architecture in the past it’s a logical next step to progress to cars and whales, right? This example combined a single micro-projector with a TFT screen. The artifact which serves as the projection target can be replaced manually and is automatically detected. In our working example we merely provided a few inspirational visual effects such as streamlines and inserted info graphics, but our visitors pretty soon came up with their own ideas.
We were surprised about the reactions to this one. While technically it’s just a rubber-coated tabletop with a touch screen sensor inside, some people were completely flabbergasted by the fact that a pencil drawing can also be a touch interface.
The Tangible Table showed the following projects:
Under the creative lead of our client Intuity MESO Digital Interiors developed two exhibits for EnBW at the Hannover Industry Fair HMI 2009.
